Business and Professional Women of New York State (BPW/NYS) is a non-profit state federation of Business and Professional Women/USA. Founded in 1919, BPW promotes equity for all women in the workplace through advocacy, education and information. With members represented in every congressional district in the country, BPW includes among its membership women and men of every age, race, religion, political party and socio-economic background. BPW/USA is the leading advocate on work-life balance and workplace equity issues.

BPW/USA was among the first of women’s organizations to endorse the Equal Rights Amendment in 1937, and been a leader in promoting and passing legislation affecting workingwomen ever since. In addition, BPW educates its members on policy issues and encourages them to become involved in policy development in their own workplaces, and in grassroots efforts at the local, state and federal government levels. In 1956, BPW members established the BPW Foundation to promote equity for workingwomen nationwide through education, information and research, while providing financial assistance for women seeking to further their education to advance in their careers or to reenter the workforce. BPW’s Political Action Committee (BPW/PAC) provides contributions and endorsements to women and pro-women candidates who support BPW’s legislative priorities. BPW's Red Purse Society supports awareness and education of the wage gap. The BPW Entrepreneur Center is committed to helping women achieve the dream of becoming an entrepreneur and has compiled resources and information to achieve this goal. The BPW Career Center is the only on-line job board highlighting the cutting edge practices of both women and veteran-friendly employers. Women Joining Forces - Closing Ranks, Opening Doors is a BPW/USA program which offers a full dues waiver for a one-year introductory membership to women exiting military service in 2006 and discounted membership to other women veterans. With Connect-A-Vet, we offer helpful resources especially organized for women veterans. For membership information and information on BPW’s Signature Conferences, Events, and Programs that benefit local communities, aid in the personal and professional development of women, and raise awareness of issues affecting working women.
